today.

Yesterday.
Yesterday was a long day.
We did not leave the house allllll day.
Yesterday it snowed. Not the pretty "let's go outside and play" kind of snow, but the wet and dreary kind.
Maisy has not been sleeping well the past week. A quick google research informed me that there is actually something called "4 month sleep regression". I felt a little better after learning this.
Yesterday, I was so tired.

All of these things are so silly and petty, but it made for a very long day.
And I was fighting a bad attitude.

But, today.
Today was beautiful.
I still didn't have the car.
Masiy still didn't sleep well.
But, today, I asked God to give me a good attitude.
And not only did he help me to choose joy, but He gave me sunshine!
I felt like I was greeting a friend that I had not seen in a long time.
I actually needed my sunglasses for the first time in months.

The girls and I made the familiar walk down Main St.
I love how Evelynn always notices details that I often overlook.
Leaves, people, garbage, noises, reflections...

Today was good.

A trip to the library always puts us in a good mood.

This little Mexican joint was just begging us to come inside for nachos. While we waited, Evelynn and I played with Mr. Potato Head.

Dee-lish. And good salsa. That's key.

Love this girl with all my heart.

Walking off the nachos.

Every time I peek into the stroller, I'm greeted with this gorgeous smile.

I usually buy those big 10 lb. bags of russet potatoes at the grocery store because they are usually super cheap, potatoes are filling (which is good when you are on a budget!) and I figure that I can usually find a way to use them up before they go bad. Potatoes last a loooong time....right?
Well, after exhausting all of my ideas of how to cook with potatoes, we still had a small pile of need-to-use-up-right-now potatoes.
Recently, I have been trying really hard to not waste any food. Ethically and financially, it just doesn't seem right to throw out food. So, I've been learning to be creative with how to use up food before I toss it.
So, in the spirit of resoursefulness, Evelynn and I made ourselves some potato stamps.
(It also made me think that this would be fun to do with other need-to-throw-out vegetables. celery, kale, broccoli.....they would all make fun stamps.)

Let me just stop here and mention the obvious: I know you are all jealous of my purple-on-purple outfit. I like to call it, "It's only 8am and I have a newborn who still feeds in the night".
After a while, Evelynn started to get brave and get some paint on her fingers. Usually, she does not like to get messy. She is actually more clean than I am. If she has food on her face, she'll help herself to a wet-wipe and clean herself before I even notice. And she thoroughly enjoys cleaning our baseboards and sweeping our floors.....
So, I loved seeing her get a bit messy...

And after about 2 minutes of messy hands, she was ready to clean up =)

my insta-week

wind in the face, i love old books, pumpkin pancakes for dinner, our little athlete at the play gym, crunching the snow, walk on main st., cousins in tutus, not sure about this, reading, reading2, new art, looks gross but tastes deee-lish, my maisy, daddy is a good sport.

Is it weird that I get super excited to check out children's books from the library? I love browsing through rows and rows of books and then looking through my huge stack of books until I have narrowed it down to a pile of good mamma-approved books for Evelynn to bring home.
I love books with good illustrations. I love books that creatively teach good morals and lessons. I love when books are written really well. I like it when a book makes me laugh. I love unique little characters. I love the fantasy and make-believe. I just really like good children's books.
And I especially love when Evelynn gets lost in a pile of books. Sometimes she looks at them quietly and other times she makes up stories out loud. Those made up stories are the best!
I loved reading as a kid (Babysitter's Club anyone?), and it makes my heart happy to see Evelynn feel the same. She is a lot like her Daddy.....pretty much a full on Daddy's girl. So, I like that this is one of our 'things'.
Reading is our thing.

toes.

Both of our girls have my fingers and my toes.... Long and beautiful and slightly awkward.
It was one of the first things we noticed about Evelynn and Maisy right after they were born.
I actually love it. It's an everyday reminder of how much they are a part of me.

Just some pictures...

And I love these sister pictures...

Fashion side note.....Evelynn would wear this dress every single day if I let her. And how long is it socially acceptable for Maisy to just wear sleepers all day?
